At the beginning of 2016, there were 6,153 official and over 30,000 unauthorized dumps in Ukraine. One of the largest is the Lviv City Landfill, which began operations in 1959 and is located near the village. Great Gribovichy at a distance of 3 km from Lviv. In 2003, the Chief State Sanitary Doctor of the Lviv region issued a decree to terminate the operation of the Lviv City Landfill. But despite scientific publications, regulations and regulations, it continued to operate until May 2016. The reason for the termination of the landfill operation was the fire that caused the waste to shift on May 30, 2016, resulting in the death of three emergency personnel and one person missing. In this regard, in order to obtain prompt information on the movement of waste along the slope, as well as to analyze the state of the landfill as a whole, in the period from June 11 to June 30, 2016, a complex of engineering and technical measures aimed at monitoring the Lviv city landfill was carried out .

On June 11, 2016, Trimble UX-5 UAV aerial survey was carried out for receiving information on the status of the Lviv City Landfill after waste displacement. As a result, an orthophotoplan and DCD of the Lviv City Landfill were created, which were compared with the available data for October 2015.

Comparison of the created orthophoto plans of the Lviv City Landfill for 2015 and 2016 made it possible to estimate the real scale of waste displacement. As a result of waste displacement, it was found that 34 800 m2 of land was covered, including 17 600 m2 of forest and 8 100 m2 (ie 25%) of lakes of filtrate. The waste that entered the filtrate lakes raised the water mirror mark and increased the pressure on the soil dam. This caused the levee to break and leachate into the surrounding area. Also, a comparison of the created orthophoto planes and the CMR made it possible to determine the boundary and the area of the collapsed area — 7 600 m2.
